A Chat with Rob Burrough
Mr Rob Burrough - new principal of ACS (International)ACS (International) ushered in the new semester with the arrival of our new principal, Mr Rob Burrough. An experienced leader, the affable Mr Burrough brings with him a philosophy of education which involves holistic development of students in all realms – academic, social, physical, cultural and spiritual. He holds great faith in the international education system, and is an advocate of both the IGCSE and IB – describing them to be a “passport” to the future and a system that draws in students to create a culturally rich and varied society.

When asked what attracted him to ACS (International), Mr Burrough instantaneously indulged into a detailed elucidation of the many factors that convinced him to take a giant leap from Mombasa, Kenya to cosmopolitan Singapore. Mr Burrough emphasised the importance of an international education and highlighted it as one of the factors which drew him to ACS (International), deeming the IB as the gold standard of education. He agrees with the mission and vision of the school as one that stands for developing future leaders in a global community and a Christian context. One of Mr Burrough’s motivations as a teacher and a leader is having the opportunity to make a difference.

Apart from the fact that the school offers the international curriculum to students, Mr Burrough strongly believes that the school attracts and develops exceptionally well-rounded students. A scientist by profession, Mr. Burrough has a wide range of teaching experience, varying from Biology to Maths to P.E. He commends Singapore for its impeccably ordered nature and when asked whether he would consider returning to New Zealand in the future, he replied: “Singapore is where we want to put down our roots and not just be here for a couple of years or so. We want to make this a longer term position.”

Our new Principal described Christianity as a way of life, and that everything he does is dependent on his faith which influences how he interacts with others and deals with issues. He is happy with how the school integrates this Christian element into its curriculum. Another thing that really appealed to him when he first entered our school was its welcoming nature, so on that note, we want to take this opportunity to welcome him into our community.
