Leadership Changes in ACS Schools

The ACS Board of Governors has announced that Mr. Ng Eng Chin, current Principal of ACS (Barker Road), will be joining ACS (International) Jakarta as Principal Designate in 2008. Taking over Mr Ng’s position will be Mr. Peter Tan, current Principal of ACS (Junior). Mrs. Kathryn Koh, who was the Vice-Principal of ACS (Barker Road), has been appointed Principal of ACS (Junior). All these changes will take effect from December 2007.

Mr. Ng Eng Chin has served in the leadership position at ACS (Barker Road) the last fourteen years. After twelve years of education in ACS, he started his career in the Education Service as a teacher in 1984 with the then Anglo-Chinese Secondary School. According to Mr. Tan Wah Thong, Chairman of the ACS Board of Governors, “The Board wishes to place on record its appreciation and thanks to Mr. Ng Eng Chin for his twenty three years of dedicated and committed service to the ACS schools in Singapore. We wish him God’s blessings as he continues his service at ACS (International) Jakarta”.

Mr. Peter Tan has been the Principal of ACS (Junior) since November 1999. Prior to his appointment at ACS (Junior), he was a Senior Curriculum Specialist at the Curriculum Planning and Development Division, MOE. During his tenure at MOE, he was awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship and obtained his Masters of Arts (Curriculum Design) from the University of Ohio, USA. In 1999, Mr. Tan was awarded the Commendation Medal, a National Day award for his contributions to education service.

A true-blue ACSian, Mr. Tan taught in ACS (Secondary) (1984-1986) and Anderson Junior College (1988-1991). He is an active member of the Barker Road Methodist Church and has served the Church in various leadership capacities over the years. “We are certain and confident that he is able to lead ACS (Barker Road) towards greater heights of success” Mr. Tan Wah Thong stated.

Mrs. Kathryn Koh, an old girl from ACJC class of 1983, has been with the ACS Family of Schools since 1989 when she joined ACJC as a teacher in the English department. She moved on to head the English and Aesthetics department in ACS (Barker Road) in January 2002, and subsequently assumed the position of Vice-Principal in December 2004. She recently completed the 6 month Leadership in Education Programme at NIE in preparation for her appointment as Principal.

Mrs. Koh is known for her commitment to providing an education that remains true to Bishop Oldham’s vision of Academic Achievement, Strength of Character, Christian Values and Services. While she will provide the best of an ACSian educational experience for our boys at ACS (Junior), she is also committed to equipping them with the skills and attributes that will take them on to the next stage in their education.
