Tan Boon Chiang


Mr Tan Boon Chiang – an alumni and teacher of Anglo-Chinese School (ACS), past President of our ACS Old Boy’s Association, past Honorary President of the Singapore Boys’ Brigade - passed away peacefully on 28 December 2015 at the age of 92.

In his formative years, both Mr Tan’s education at ACS and his involvement with the Boys’ Brigade had a very significant life-long impact on him throughout his life and even up to his passing. ACS and the Boys’ Brigade were the nuclei to his Christian education and faith. The Boys’ Brigade fostered his interest and desire to engage in community service and Christian service. His coffin was draped with the colours of the Singapore Boys’ Brigade.

Mr. Tan’s heartfelt desire to serve the underprivileged and the down trodden has truly defined him. He was social worker at heart. It brought him much pleasure and personal gratification and earned him the Public Service Star and later the Public Service Star Bar.

Mr Tan’s services impacted and benefitted schools, churches, organizations and multiple charities and charitable clubs, including:

  • President of the ACS Old Boy’s Association (1961 to 1963)
  • ACS Board of Governors
  • Honorary Brigade President of Singapore Boys’ Brigade
  • Founding Chairman of Singapore Heart Foundation
  • Singapore Cancer Society
  • St. Johns’ Home for the Aged
  • Founder, Patron and Chairman of Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home
  • Board of Management of Swiss Cottage Secondary School
  • Wesley Methodist Church – honorary lay-leader, worship-leader and communion steward
  • Charismatic Movement in Singapore and the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship
    International
  • Round Table of Experts of the International Labour Organization.
