Yu Sheng, Satay or Mee (Siam)?

The Class of 55's Satay & Mee Siam Party

It was not a ‘kopi, teh or mee’ party on the afternoon of 03 February for the 17 schoolmates from the ACS Class of 1955 (O Level) and 2 ladies from the ACS Pre-U Class of 1956-57, but rather ‘yu sheng, satay or mee (siam)’!

Hosted by Dr Koh Eng Soo and his wife Dr Letty Koh (nee Sng) at their home at Bukit Timah Road, the gathering was by far the largest for the 1955 cohort which used to meet monthly for lunch until two years ago when they met only quarterly.

Following the encouraging response and meaningful fellowship, there was a call for a return to the monthly informal gathering, said Yuen Kum Chuen, who tipped off The ACS Echo about the big turnout at Dr Koh’s home.

The gathering was not without drama. Prof Wan Fook Sun provided the excitement when he got himself into a quandary negotiating an awkward corner while parking his car.

Fellow classmates came to his rescue and the last photograph on the right is a record of their efforts. No caption is necessary as the photo speaks volumes for the management theory that there are typically three types of business managers:

  • Those who make things happen

  • Those who watch things happen, and

  • Those who wonder what on earth has happened!
