Class of 56's Golf Challenge 2010

On 15 December 2010, twelve septuagenarian golfers gathered at the Raffles Country Club in the early hours of the morning to compete in the ACS 1956 Cohort’s Annual Golf Challenge.

Undaunted by the trickeries of The Palm Course and the fickleness of the elements, they quickly knuckled down to the gruelling task of driving the golf ball straight and making 10 foot putts.

At the end of the day and after the dust had settled, Tan Keng Jin emerged as the eventual winner. John Chen, Tan Bee Wah and Tan Wah Thong were second, third and fourth respectively. Georgie Teo was tied fourth but had to concede on count back.

But the golf scores did not matter that day, what was more important to those who participated was the camaraderie and fellowship that such a gathering provides.

In the end, everyone was a winner. And though they may not have taken the trophy home, they certainly took back with them memories that will last a lifetime. Or at least till next year when they will again rally to the call and take part in this game of grand endeavour. And for those who were totally humiliated by the game that day, they will take heart because The Best is Yet to Be! .
